IT’S A WRAP : 2024 A YEAR IN FOCUS
As 2024 draws to a close, we reflect on a year where beyond delivering purposeful Maldives tours, our focus has been on education. Education is essential in fostering sustainable tourism – it empowers communities, inspires travelers, and can be the catalyst for change.
By equipping individuals with knowledge and tools, we not only enhance cultural and environmental understanding but also lay the groundwork for long-lasting positive impacts. Education is a shared responsibility and remains a cornerstone in our efforts to promote responsible travel. Here are some of the highlights of our journey this year:
NUTURING FUTURE LOCAL GUIDES
During low season, the team worked to develop a two-day Local Guide Training Program, aimed at equipping excursion guides and aspiring youth with the skills to lead safe and responsible activities. In October, we successfully conducted a pilot program with excursion guides from Ecoboo, focusing on communication, safety and sustainability. The plan for 2025 is to expand the program during low season and we welcome notes of interest from businesses or island councils.
ENHANCING TOUR TRANSPARENCY
Found in the trip details section for each tour on our website, ‘your Impact‘ highlights the tangible effects of participation—from supporting local businesses to safeguarding marine ecosystems. By providing clear and measurable data, not only do we ensure transparency but we also assist potential guests in understanding how their choices contribute to meaningful change. This feature not only supports their decision-making but also fosters greater awareness of how even small actions can create a ripple effect of positive impact.
EMPOWERING OTHERS THROUGH KNOWLEDGE
Our Online Marine Education HUB is designed to be a one stop library for snorkeling enthusiasts, scuba divers, or simply those passionate about the Maldives marine environment. The resource page on
our website pulls together marine
-life code of conducts, knowledge on
coral reefs as well as mangroves and seagrass ecosystems
. Find out how to get involved in citizen science and
support organisations such as Manta Trust and Maldives Whale Shark Research Program, or delve deeper with a selection of online learning platforms from partners i
ncluding Olive Ridley Project and Maldives Resilient Reefs.
SUPPORTING THE SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY OF OTHERS
Often approached by agents, and operators interested in offering our Maldives tours but who have yet to embark on their sustainability journey, we recognized the opportunity to support others in taking those initial steps by creating a dedicated series of documents offering practical tips and examples drawn from their own experiences and learnings. Resources include:
Kickstart Your Sustainability Journey: Simple Steps to Create a Sustainability Policy
10 Questions to Assess the Sustainability of Suppliers
How to Sell the Benefits of Sustainable Travel
Through these documents we aim to empower others in the industry to adopt responsible practices and continue the ripple effect of education and awareness.
LAUNCH OF OUR RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL PLEDGE
Finally, we rounded off the year with the launch of a
Responsible Travel Pledge. Designed to inspire mindful practices, the pledge encourages travelers to reduce their environmental footprint and make meaningful contributions to the local community.
As we celebrate the milestones of 2024, we also look ahead to 2025, where we will continue our efforts in fostering meaningful connections between travelers, local communities and the remarkable ecosystems that make the Maldives a true paradise. Thanks goes out to our partners, guests, and dedicated team who continue to support in making a difference.
